Phoenix Zoo

Founded in 1962, the zoo is home within the Papago Park and spans over 125 acres of land, making it one of the largest non-profit zoos in the United States. With a mission to inspire and educate the public about wildlife and nature conservation, the Phoenix Zoo provides a perfect setting for a fun-filled day out with the family. Here's why the Phoenix Zoo is a top choice for families looking to explore the wonders of wildlife.

Diverse Animal Exhibits

One of the main attractions at a zoo is of course the animal exhibits. The Phoenix zoo is home to over 3,000 animals across nearly 400 species. The zoo holds and cares for several endangered and threatened species as well. You can see many types of birds including Bald Eagles, animals that roam Africa including lions, and you can even see and touch stingrays in their saltwater exhibit.

They have 4 main trails named the Africa Trail, Arizona Trail, Tropics Trail, and the Children's Trail. Each of these have animals unique to their respective trails and the Children's trail even includes a goat petting area.

Don't miss the new predator exhibit displaying hyenas, jaguars, and lions! This is a new exhibit where you have different points of view, including a raised walkway to view the lions from above.

Educational Programs

Education is a big part of the Phoenix Zoo. We want to educate about animals and help the world understand why we need to protect these animals. This zoo offers camps and education options for schools, including field trips. They also offer adult learning and volunteer opportunities.

Animal Conservation

The Phoenix Zoo is not just a place of entertainment but also a hub for conservation work. The zoo participates in numerous local and global conservation initiatives, aiming to protect endangered species and their natural habitats. By visiting the zoo, families contribute directly to these efforts. There are also a few ways to donate through monthly giving, adopting animals, tribute gifts, and large donation opportunities. All of these donation types help animal conservation not only at the Phoenix Zoo, but around the world.
